Garda DOP oil under the spotlight of VenetoAgricolturaChannel
A niche production (900,000 half-liter bottles in 2021) but of the highest quality. The virtual journey of Veneto Agricoltura between the regional PDOs and PGIs makes a stop this week on Lake Garda where an extra virgin olive oil is produced in the hills that surround it, appreciated by the best chefs in the world.

Delicacy, fruity scent, an almond aftertaste perceptible just a few seconds after the olives are pressed. These are the peculiarities of Garda DOP oil, one of the 39 Veneto quality designations recognized by the European Union. The virtual journey of VenetoAgricolturaChannel, the multimedia channel of the regional agency, between the regional PDOs and PGIs makes a stop this week right on Lake Garda where, in the surrounding hills, this extraordinary extra virgin olive oil is produced.

“A niche production – underlines Laura Turri, President of the Garda DOP Oil Protection Consortium, in the new focus of Veneto Agriculture available on all the Agency’s social channels (https://youtu.be/qzGGnHj4XJs) – considering that in 2021 400,000 kg of oil were produced, equal to about 900,000 half-liter bottles, in practice the production equivalent to that of only three companies in a region of southern Italy ”.

Oil Garda DOP therefore does not aim at large numbers but at absolute quality, widely recognized by admirers and the greatest starred chefs who, for the typical light taste and maximum acidity of 0.5 g per 100 g of product, use this product for seasoning dishes with a delicate flavor. An oil that can be used both raw and cooked and combined with many dishes based on lake fish, meats, meat and fish carpaccio, dips, cooked and raw vegetables, sauces, bruschetta and low-fat cheeses; even it is excellent paired with chocolate but also to prepare sweets, sorbets and ice cream.

Garda DOP oil is obtained from the olive fruits of the Casaliva, Frantoio, Leccino and Pendolino varieties and is produced in the northernmost European latitude for the cultivation of olive trees. The Garda PDO Designation can be accompanied by three distinct additional geographical indications: Oriental, Bresciano and Trentino, depending on the production area, which affects 16 municipalities in the province of Verona, 27 in that of Brescia and 11 in Trento.

As mentioned, there are no less than 39 Veneto agri-food products authorized by the European Union to boast the DOP / IGP / TSG designations, important awards synonymous with quality, tradition, bond with the territory, savoir-faire of our farmers.

VenetoAgricolturaChannel is dedicating an in-depth study to these products every Friday. In the spotlight, therefore, the 18 Protected Designations of Origin (PDO), the 18 Protected Geographical Indications (PGI) and the 3 Guaranteed Traditional Specialties (TSG). Appointment on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, on the website of the regional agency and on CafèTV24.
