Museum Island, 5 places to visit this summer!
Perhaps not everyone knows it but close to the Pedemontana del Grappa there is a millennium of artistic, architectural and historical evolution. Five extraordinary places that contain a priceless heritage of works of art.
In this area there is one of the most extraordinary historical-artistic areas of Veneto: within a few kilometers, five extraordinary places such as Asolo, Castelfranco Veneto, Fanzolo di Vedelago, Maser and Possagno, enclose a priceless heritage of works of art placed in a territory rich in other historical attractions that testify the most important moments of Venetian art, from the Roman era to the Middle Ages, from the Renaissance to the contemporary age.
Around the five sites, fascinating historic centers develop that offer the opportunity to admire beautiful Venetian villas, castles, churches and palaces, such as Villa Emo and Villa di Maser created by the Vicenza architect Andrea Palladio with the frescoes by Paol0 Veronese and Giovan Battista Zelotti, the Barco della Regina Cornaro in Altivole, the Walls and the Cathedral of Castelfranco Veneto where the Giorgione Altarpiece and the ancient Tower of the Ezzelini Castle in San Zenone are kept. Other testimonies of contemporary art are preserved in San Vito di Altivole, where the architect Carlo Scarpa built the Monumental Tomb Brion, and in Riese, where Pope Pius X was born and where his birthplace is preserved intact. On the top of Monte Grappa, the extraordinary Monument dedicated to the fallen of the Wars is visible.
The whole area of the Pedemontana also offers paths for walking or horseback riding that allow you to savor the atmosphere of a territory full of precious architectural testimonies that document a thousand years of history.
By purchasing the FULL TICKET at one of the five museums, the right to REDUCED ENTRANCE in the other four is acquired for one year.
Masterpiece of Andrea Palladio, Paolo Veronese and Alessandro Vittoria, the Villa di Maser, also known as Villa Barbaro, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most splendid examples of the Venetian civilization of the sixteenth century.
CIVIC MUSEUM OF ASOLO
The Civic Museum of Asolo, located in the Palazzo della Ragione, has a rich archaeological section, a precious picture gallery with works by Luca Giordano, Bernardo Bellotto, Antonio Canova, a section dedicated to the Treasure of the Cathedral and finally three rooms dedicated to three extraordinary women: Queen Caterina Cornaro, the Divine of the International Theater Eleonora Duse and the English traveler and writer Freya Stark.
Built between 1557 and 1560 on commission by Leonardo Emo, Villa Emo is considered one of the most beautiful Palladian villas, above all because it brings together the dominical house, barchesse and colombare in a linear unit, in an architectural synthesis never seen before. The composition of the complex is essential, of majestic simplicity, attributable to precise symmetries and mathematical proportions.
GIORGIONE HOUSE MUSEUM
Casa Giorgione Museum presents a highly suggestive exhibition itinerary that accompanies the visitor to discover the enigmatic face of the painter and the culture of his time, in particular illustrating the two castle works of the painter with precious museum finds and multimedia technologies.
GYPSOTHECA AND ANTONIO CANOVA MUSEUM
The sculptor’s artistic heritage is fully preserved in the Canovian complex consisting of the Birthplace, which preserves his paintings, and the Gypsotheca built specifically in 1836 at the behest of his brother Giambattista Sartori Canova and enlarged in 1957 by the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa.
