Prosecco Docg Di Ca ‘Del Poggio lands in Belgium and arrives on the Grammont Wall
Former champion Rudy Pevenage has included it in the noble wine list of the lounge bar and oyster shop that he manages at the foot of the historic climb of the Tour of Flanders since 2016 twinned with the Wall of San Pietro di Feletto.
A story of Muri who wrote the cycling legend. Walls that unite, that connect edges of old Europe even at a time when, due to the health emergency, distances seem to be getting longer.
For some time now, in the renowned wine list of Rudy Pevenage’s lounge bar and oyster shop, Ca ‘del Poggio’s Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg has also been on display. And the novelty was much appreciated by the customers of the renowned restaurant in the town of Geraardsbergen.
We are in Belgium, at the foot of the Grammont Wall, the historic ascent of the Tour of Flanders. And Rudy Pevenage, at the turn of the 70s and 80s, was one of the most celebrated cyclists in the world: green jersey at the 1980 Tour de France, winner of one stage in the Tour and one in the Giro, he then embarked on his career as sporting director, also driving Jan Ullrich’s Telekom / T-Mobile.
Since 2016 the Muro di Grammont has been twinned with the Muro di Ca ‘del Poggio, a symbolic climb of the land of Prosecco, a strip of asphalt that climbs through the vineyards of San Pietro di Feletto. And since 2018 the partnership has expanded to Mûr-de-Bretagne, itself a historic ascent of the Tour de France. Walls that unite because this triple twinning in the name of great cycling intends to become an opportunity for the promotion, not just sports, of each other’s territories.
The bond between the communities of the villages hosting the three historic climbs has progressively strengthened. And between the three walls there is a sort of relay race that alternates the passages of the Giro d’Italia in San Pietro di Feletto (the last, just over three months ago, in the recovery of the Corsa rosa postponed in spring due to the pandemic) and the transit of the Tour de France on the two climbs of Northern Europe.
This explains why Ca ‘del Poggio’s Prosecco Docg can be tasted at the tables of Rudy’s Bar in Geraardsbergen. Cycling, big climbs and a good glass of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg. What else?
