August, time for gatherings. For the second consecutive year, the Venetian athletics has made an appointment in Borgo Valbelluna, where from tomorrow – Wednesday 21 August – until the end of the month the traditional meetings organized by the technical sector of the Fidal Regional Committee will take place.
This year, as many as 104 athletes are involved, all belonging to the categories of students (16 and 17 years old) and cadets (14 and 15 years old). The first phase of the gathering (54 called up) will run from Wednesday 21st to Sunday 25th August and will involve sprinters, middle-distance runners, walkers and specialists in multiple events. The second (50 selected) will run from Sunday 25th to Thursday 29th August and will be dedicated to hurdlers, jumpers and throwers.
The athletes will be followed by 18 coaches from the regional technical sector (eight for the first round and ten for the second), led by the technical trustee Enzo Agostini. The presence of physiotherapists Maria Vittoria Cestonaro and Elisa Scardanzan is also expected to support the athletes’ activity.
“Participation in the gathering will be open to the athletes’ personal technicians – Agostini specifies -. The summons were made on the basis of the results obtained in the first part of the year, keeping in mind the limit of approximately one hundred participants due to logistical and organizational issues. The most immediate objectives are focused on the second part of the season, starting with the Italian cadet championships, scheduled for early October in Caorle, but with such young athletes all the educational aspects, starting from behavioral dynamics, will be of particular importance as always”.
For the 104 called up, these will be intense days of training and testing, taking as a point of reference the Mel track, where the Gs La Piave 2000 operates, a company that will be involved in providing organizational support to the activity.
The athletes will share every moment of the day, on and off the field, and will also be able to benefit from the experiences of those who, before them, also passing through the regional gatherings, have reached the top of athletics. The case of triple jumper Ottavia Cestonaro who, after having participated in the Paris Olympics, will be a guest at both gatherings. Also eagerly awaited is the visit of Manuela Levorato, an unforgettable star of Italian speed, now vice president of the Regional Committee.
