Varro was the first to describe in detail the grafting process of the cherry tree, while, subsequently, Pliny the Elder, in his “Naturalis Historia”, dealt with the spread of cherries in the Italic peninsula as evidence of how ancient this crop is in our country. Today Italy is one of the largest producers of this fruit in the world, grown in many varieties different from each other in size, taste and color.

Cherry blossoms occur in spring at the same time as the leaves appear. A spectacle of nature for the white floral density, which gives the crown of the trees a fairytale whiteness. In the territory of Asolo and Marostica the cultivation of cherry dates back to the Middle Ages, as attested by several notices published by the Podestà of Asolo, Andrea Cornaro, to keep the price of cherries under control. cherries in Asolo and Maser; the Asolo Cherry Festival has been held in the Loggia of the Cathedral since the early 1960s.

Product description

The shape is spheroidal, of medium size, the skin takes on a dark red color, the pulp is pink, consistent, juicy, adherent to the core, with a curved peduncle and medium sized core.

Production process

The cherry trees are kept low and close together. After flowering, when fertilization has taken place, red cherries are formed, gathered in clusters. The plants take 4 or 5 years to go into full production and then produce an average of 10 to 40 kg of fruit.
Harvesting must take place at the exact moment of ripeness and strictly by hand, in order to avoid damaging the product. The storage period is very limited due to the high perishable nature of the fruit which must be placed in cold storage within a few hours of harvesting.
