The taxidermy exhibition is an attraction for families: children are ecstatic.
The children’s drawings of the “Adopt a watercourse” competition are awarded.
The 23rd edition of “Hunting, Fishing and Nature” closes with a positive sign with almost 13,000 visitors (+ 7% compared to 2024) with presences from all over Central and Northern Italy. It is also growing for exhibitors and initiatives and conferences thanks to the important contribution of the Veneto Region and the Province of Belluno. It is worth highlighting the activity carried out by the UNA Foundation on raising awareness of the issues of biodiversity and the environment linked to the impact of human activity. “An important response – says the CEO, Giovanni De Lorenzi – which shows how this event is a meeting point and a 360° reference for the world of fishing and hunting in the mountains. These three days in Longarone were fundamental for building relationships that will bring further innovations in the next edition”.
Children were the protagonists for the third consecutive year at Longarone Fiere Dolomiti. The Sunday of “Hunting, fishing and nature” saw, in fact, the awards ceremony for the competition “Adopt a watercourse, adopt a fish”, organized by the Fondazione Fantastiche Dolomiti and the Aps Pescatori Bellunesi. A third edition that began by bringing environmental training and education to schools. The fishermen explained to the very young how the river habitat works and what forms of life there are inside. And then they gave carte blanche to the children, asking them to draw. 223 works arrived at the fair and were exhibited during the days of “Hunting, fishing and nature”, to be voted on by visitors. We will therefore have to wait a few days for the outcome of the popular jury, while the prizes of the technical jury were awarded at the fair. In first and second place we find Sofhia Colmaviera and Roberto Bacchilega of the 5A and 3A classes of the Calalzo primary school respectively. Following in the ranking are Aisa De Martin of the 5A of San Gregorio, Cesare Slongo of the 5A of Sovramonte and Viola Pradel of the 2A of Lamon (the complete rankings will be published on www.pescarenelledolomiti.it).
This year, the scholarship in memory of the famous naturalist Giuseppe Tormen was won by the proposal of Giada Mascotto: “Study of the distribution of amphibians in the Belluno Prealps”. The scholarship, promoted by the Associazione Faunisti Veneti and the Province of Belluno, will serve to cover travel expenses and the purchase of the materials necessary for the investigation.
To enrich the fair’s offer, and to intrigue young and old, also the 21st National Taxidermy Championship, which brought to “Hunting, Fishing and Nature” 90 preparations to be evaluated, in addition to the stuffed animals in the environmental compositions (dioramas), the work of the most famous taxidermist masters in Italy.
The national championship, with the international judge the Austrian Stephan Weigl, saw Michela Padovani triumph in the birds category for the small section, Dario Miglioranza for the medium and for the large Manuel Bianchi who also took home the categories trophies and small and large mammals. Also standing out in the various categories were Mirco Mazzone, Piero Della Libera and Iginio Bressan.
145 fishermen from five regions took care of animating the Maè stream on Saturday: Veneto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Marche. Two trout fishing competitions were organized by the Fishing Basin n. 6. The team competition with spinning artificial baits, won by the Brescia team “Amici di Giannazzo”, and the individual competition with live bait sectors that saw Renato Tranquillo from Belluno, Federico Bottarel from Treviso and Igor Santagiuliana and Stefano Fioravanzo from Vicenza excel in their respective sections. While, despite the bad weather, on Sunday morning fifteen children, accompanied by their mothers and fathers, challenged each other and above all had fun fishing at the Malcom lake with a finale of prizes for everyone.
Sunday also saw the evaluation of the best trophies from all over the province of Belluno: 94 deer, roe deer, mouflons and chamois for a total of 63 medals, 3 of which were gold. “This evaluation, which for the gold medals means the registration in the international register of wild animals from all over the world in Budapest, testifies to a national record – underlines the person in charge of the Festa del Cacciatore, Raffaele Riposi – in terms of quality of wildlife management in the province of Belluno and a significant confirmation to guarantee the biodiversity of the territory”.
