The long jumper, Olympic bronze medalist in Paris and world indoor champion in Nanjing, will be among the stars of the Italian event on August 2 and 3. Tickets for the stadium are still on sale.
Caorle (Venice), July 26, 2025 – He is the youngest Italian track and field Olympic medalist in the last 100 years. And at the end of 2024, he was proclaimed a “Rising Star,” marking the first-ever success for an Italian athlete at the World Athletics Awards, the Oscars of global athletics.
Mattia Furlani is breaking records. His 2024 was a dream: an Olympic bronze medal in Paris at 19, following silver medals at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow and the European Championships in Rome, with a world under-20 long jump record of 8.38. Then, this year, the 20-year-old talent from Rieti, coached by his mother, Khaty Seck, of the Fiamme Oro team, extended his winning streak with gold at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing and silver at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn. These are extraordinary results for an athlete just 20 years old.
His season goal, needless to say, is the World Championships in Tokyo, but a special stage in the run-up to the World Championships in mid-September will be the Italian National Championships in Caorle, which on Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd, will feature many of the Italian champions, fresh from a stunning victory at the European Team Championships in Madrid, where Furlani finished third with 8.07.
Among the athletes who have already confirmed their presence in Caorle, in addition to Furlani, are Olympic 10,000m silver medalist and four-time European champion Nadia Battocletti, European indoor long jump gold medalist Larissa Iapichino, and World shot put silver medalist Leonardo Fabbri. Many more will join the list until Monday evening, when registration closes at 8:00 PM. A host of stars are ready to ignite the stands of the Chiggiato Stadium for the 115th edition of the Italian event, just over a month before the World Championships. A sea of athletics in Caorle isn’t just a figure of speech.
