Agrimont 2026 inaugurated in Longarone: a hub for mountain agriculture
The 45th edition of Agrimont and the 7th Forest Fair & Festival were inaugurated today in Longarone. The event has grown compared to last year, with an increasingly rich and high-quality exhibition. A total of 279 brands are present at the fair: 232 from 13 Italian regions and 47 from 13 foreign countries, showcasing the best commercial solutions for farming on steep terrain and forestry work.
During the opening ceremony, the importance of the primary sector was highlighted by the Regional Councillor of the Veneto Region, Dario Bond, who emphasized the role of the fair:
“Agrimont is an important fair and we must find ways to support it. We will stand by the Mayor of Longarone, who will also act as a driving force behind this event, since he will no longer serve as President of the Province. I have great confidence in Roberto Padrin, but we need to work as a system: involve other stakeholders and other sectors, because if we remain united and work in the same direction we can win this challenge and further strengthen Agrimont and mountain agriculture.”
At the same time, he looked ahead to next year:
“Since there is increasing discussion about the mountains and the possibility of a dedicated regional department, I would like Agrimont next year to give even more space to the theme of the mountains and their promotion.”
He also suggested taking inspiration from other countries:
“With Agrimont we promote mountain agriculture, but we should also be able to integrate mountain tourism more effectively within these exhibition halls, combining what has long worked well in many other countries: the joint promotion of agri-food products and tourism. I’m thinking, for example, of Slovenia or Croatia, where this model is producing important results.”
Representing Longarone Fiere Dolomiti was Chiara Bortolas, member of the board and an expert in the mountain agro-forestry sector. She highlighted the high-quality program of events scheduled for this edition:
“There will be many events related to the dairy sector, but also to forests, transhumance and pastoralism, as well as all the activities taking place at Casa Veneto, the space promoted by Veneto Agricoltura within Agrimont. Over the next two weekends we will address many different topics, including beekeeping.”
She also announced that next weekend Longarone Fiere Dolomiti will host not only Agrimont but also the International Ice Cream Exhibition:
“This is where that event was born, and here we return to talk about ice cream as part of the 14th European Gelato Day, celebrated on March 24. We will anticipate this occasion with two events, on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22, dedicated to the world of gelato—an important element of Italian cuisine that is recognized as UNESCO heritage.”
Senator Luca De Carlo, President of the 9th Standing Committee of the Senate, stated:
“Longarone has become the reference point for mountain agriculture. Agrimont has been running for 45 editions and has become the symbol of how protecting and maintaining mountain areas is essential for the entire ecosystem and for an agriculture free from external pressures.”
He also stressed the importance of natural, territory-based agriculture, carried out by resilient entrepreneurs who have invested in innovation across all sectors, including dairy production, where the region is now internationally recognized. Products with DOP designation, such as Piave cheese, demonstrate the strength of these territories.
He also emphasized the importance of the forestry sector:
“Forestry represents a real and strategic economy for mountain areas. Poor forest management has been one of the major problems in recent years, also in terms of hydrogeological instability. Today, however, the government has finally launched the forestry cluster, entrusting it to an experienced figure such as Dr. Stefani, after many years at the General Command of the former State Forestry Corps.”
The President of the Province and Mayor of Longarone, Roberto Padrin, concluded:
“Today is certainly a day of celebration, as we inaugurate Agrimont. At a time that is not easy for Longarone Fiere—and more generally for the sector—this event is a source of pride for all of us and an opportunity to thank the companies that continue to strongly believe in this exhibition.”
He added:
“I am convinced that the future of this territory largely depends on agriculture, and above all on the commitment of the many young people who in recent years have approached this world. They are the true protagonists in enhancing and protecting our beautiful mountains and the province of Belluno.”
