Giro d’Italia 2024, associations team up for passage over Ca’ Del Poggio Wall

The countdown begins for the big party that will welcome the transit of the riders on the iconic San Pietro di Feletto climb on Saturday, May 25: a charity pedal ride for Paolo Kessisoglu’s “C’è Da Fare” association will set off from Alpago following the Carovana Rosa

San Pietro di Feletto (TV), April 16, 2024 – The Giro d’Italia is getting ready to return to the Ca’ del Poggio Wall, and in San Pietro di Feletto there are those who are planning a big pink party that will renew the memory of two years ago, when 20,000 people applauded the passage of the riders along the iconic rise of the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.

The date to be circled in red – or rather: in pink – is Saturday, May 25, the day of the penultimate of the 21 stages that will make up edition number 107 of the Giro d’Italia, whose conclusion is scheduled for the following day with the grand finale in Rome. The riders will start in Alpago and pedal to Bassano del Grappa, passing over the Ca’ del Poggio Wall after 30 kilometers. Here they will also find the first Grand Prix of the Mountain of the day.

The Giro day will be opened by a charity pedal ride in favor of “C’è Da Fare,” the association founded by Genovese actor Paolo Kessisoglu with the aim of creating psychological support projects for teenagers in difficulty (www.cedafare.org).

The ride will start from Alpago in the wake of the Giro d’Italia publicity Pink Caravan and will arrive up to the Ca’ del Poggio Wall, involving many of the friends and supporters of “C’è Da Fare” who will then participate in the party on the Wall, waiting for the passage of the riders scheduled for 1 p.m.

“The C’è Da Fare cycling team is back in the saddle for this season, and this year in many events. One of the main ones is the passage, on May 25, over the historic Ca’ del Poggio Wall, right in one of the stages of our Giro d’Italia. We are excited but also ready, looking forward to coming together to team up-and what a team! – and take C’è Da Fare’s mission further,” explains Kessisoglu, president and founder of the association.

In recent days, representatives of four local associations that will help animate the day of celebration on the Wall also met at Ca’ del Poggio: the Polisportiva Valcervano of Bagnolo, the Quarta de Otobre, the Amici Antica Pieve and the Pro Loco of San Pietro di Feletto. Thanks to their efforts, the passage of the Giro d’Italia on the Ca’ del Poggio Wall will be accompanied by a Grande Festa Rosa open to all fans: while waiting for the transit of the runners and then throughout the day, the San Pietro di Feletto hillside will thus be enriched with food and wine stands (churrasco and spit), the sympathy and music of Radio Company DJs, media partner of the event, great guests from the world of sports and entertainment and exceptional testimonials. Access will be free, with ample parking at the foot of the Wall.

The Ca’ del Poggio Wall – the only climb officially certified by the Italian Cycling Federation, twinned since 2016 with the Grammont Wall and since 2018 with the Mur-de-Bretagne – has unique characteristics. It runs for just over a kilometer on an entirely paved road, with an average gradient of 15 percent and peaks of 19 percent. It is a decisive, almost violent tear, which, thanks to the public frame, is a candidate to be among the most spectacular and awaited moments of the next Giro d’Italia as well.

For the Corsa Rosa this will be the seventh passage on the Ca’ del Poggio Wall, after the applause received with the 2009, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2022 editions. For the climb of San Pietro di Feletto, it will also be the eleventh passage of one of the grand tours: in fact, to the seven editions of the Giro d’Italia must be added the two transits of the Giro d’Italia under 23 (2018 and 2021) and the same number of passages of the Giro Rosa (2014 and 2017). Also not to be forgotten are the 2010 Italian Professional Championships, the 2023 World Gravel Championships, along with the countless international cycling events that transit the Wall every year, as well as the debut last fall of the Ca’ del Poggio Run running event.

Two years after the last time (it was May 26, 2022), the Great Pink Festival among the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg, recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site, is therefore ready to take place again. A true vertical spectacle.

Appointment for Saturday, May 25. Perhaps without forgetting a good glass of Prosecco Docg, since on the same day, at 6 p.m., the 53rd Mostra dei Vini di Collina will be inaugurated in San Pietro di Feletto, which will continue until June 9.
