Longarone, MIG 2023: dark chocolate will be the flavor competing for the Gold Cup

At Longarone Fiere Dolomiti (BL) the preparatory work for the 63rd. MIG – Mostra Internazionale del Gelato Artigianale (International Exhibition of Artisan Ice Cream), the flagship event of the Longarone exhibition center, scheduled from November 26 to 29, 2023.

After the successful initiatives proposed in Venice and Longarone for the recent European Day of Artisanal Ice Cream – the idea for which was born on the very occasion of MIG 2008 – the details of the event’s program are now being entered into with the clear objective of enhancing the artisanal ice cream supply chain and other complementary sectors, such as coffee and chocolate, in a four-day event full of business meetings and exchange of ideas and opportunities with real care and dutiful attention to the business of the exhibiting companies.

Some novelties will also be there for the competitions that have always characterized MIG, starting with the historic Gold Cup, now in its 53rd edition.

This year, the competition, which in recent years had been partly managed by external entities, will be taken care of directly by Longarone Fiere which, also to avoid possible disputes that have concerned recent ice cream competitions, will guarantee maximum anonymity of the ice creams to be judged until the final proclamation of the winners.

The flavor for the 2023 edition of the Gold Cup is Water-Based Dark Chocolate.

Compared to recent editions, the different stages will also be simplified, and after delivery, the anonymized ice cream samples will be judged, with input from the sensory analysis service of Veneto Agricoltura, by a jury composed of people from different age and profession categories.

At the end of the first phase, the top ten ranked ice cream samples will then be judged publicly by a panel of experts representing the industry supply chain.

But there will be another novelty. To the ten ice creams selected, an eleventh ice cream sample of the same flavor will be added, which will be presented, again anonymously, by the first-ranked ice cream maker at the “Copa de Oro” competition to be held as part of the FITHEP Expoalimentaria Fair scheduled for June 5-7, 2023 in Cordoba, Argentina.
