Focus on Forests Fiera & Festival in the second weekend of Agrimont with the events of Veneto Agricoltura

The “Silk Road” stops at Longarone Fiere Dolomiti. In the second weekend of Agrimont, the mountain agriculture fair that opened last Saturday, there will be some insights into the theme of silkworm breeding to obtain silk. A topic curated by Veneto Agricoltura.
“Can mulberry silkworm breeding be done in Veneto in the third millennium?”. We will start from this question that will have answers in the conference promoted by the Veneto Region (Directorate for Economic Promotion and Territorial Marketing L.R. n. 6/2024 “VENETIAN SETA ROAD” DGRV n. 754/2024), and Veneto Agricoltura. The meeting – scheduled for Saturday 22 March at 9 – will be an opportunity to explain, especially to high school students and in particular to those of agricultural technical schools, not only the opportunities offered by the sector, but also the path that the Regional Law provides to involve them in the recovery of the silkworm heritage and in the cultural heritage of the regional silk tradition.
Sericulture is an agro-industrial chain that has experienced a dramatic decline in Europe at the end of the 20th century due to the supremacy of China. Today, however, it is among the agricultural activities that offer an excellent opportunity for economic development, because the agro-industrial process is able to create employment and expand the range of “Made in Italy” appreciated throughout the world.
The Cantiere della Provvidenza and Rete di impresa Bacicoltura Setica will discuss this on Sunday 23 March, bringing silkworm breeding products to a dedicated stand (commercial cocoons, silk skeins, mulberry plants, brochures on silkworm breeding, cosmetic creams with sericin, live silkworms, ray arrays with cocoons, chrysalises, chrysalis flour, photos of the farm, a documentary on the history of silkworm breeding and much more).
FORESTE FIERA & FESTIVAL
The second weekend of Agrimont will also feature various in-depth analyses of the forestry supply chain, included in the “Foreste fiera & festival”. On Friday 21st at 2:30 pm, agronomists and forestry doctors will meet to discuss health and safety risks in professional activity, and at 5 pm they will have their provincial general assembly.
Both Friday and Saturday there will be demonstrations on “Forestry Hydraulic Systems – Knowledge of the chainsaw and good cutting techniques”, by Veneto Agricoltura. The right knowledge of the equipment and good maintenance practices are the basis for safe work in every situation in which the use of the chainsaw is necessary. In this short demonstration, expert staff from Veneto Agricoltura will present the main characteristics of the chainsaw, focusing on the basic components, the precautions to be taken before each use, typical damage, good maintenance practices and chain sharpening techniques. A forestry instructor will illustrate, on models prepared specifically for this purpose, the most recent cutting techniques: knowledge of the right felling techniques, refined with training and experience, are an excellent starting point for safe work in the forest.
The next day, Saturday 22, at 11 am there will be space for new perspectives in forestry education, with a conference organized by the “Della Lucia” agricultural institute of Feltre. And at 2 pm, a conference on Life Vaia, organized by Veneto Agricoltura. The project aims to enhance the reforestation of damaged woods through innovative agroforestry, including the reconstitution of the forest cover with species more suited to the changing climate and the introduction of organic crops and beekeeping activities.
