Venice. Exhibition “Munch – The Expressionist Revolution” – until March 1

The exhibition aims to offer a new understanding of the roots and legacy of Edvard Munch, one of the masters of modern art whose artistic and human impact has shaped the entire twentieth century. A celebrated artist, yet often known only for a few iconic works, Munch was one of the key figures in the artistic revolutions of the last century.

The project begins with the works of the Norwegian master held in the civic collections at Ca’ Pesaro, and Munch becomes the guide for a new adventure of discovery of the art of our time, on a journey through the collections of the Galleria Internazionale d’Arte Moderna in the spirit of the Expressionist revolution.

Munch was a key figure in the European artistic revolutions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, such as the Munich Secession and especially the Berlin Secession, and shared many aspects with the great movement of international Symbolism. Graphic production was fundamental for Munch and for a long time he was known in Europe, and especially in Italy, almost exclusively for his engravings.
