A glacier-origin lake in the heart of the Dolomites: Lake Coldai

Lake Coldai, a shimmering glacier-origin lake, is located at the foot of one of the vertical walls of Monte Civetta at an altitude of 2,143 meters and can be reached via several routes, two of which we suggest, each taking approximately two hours.

Route 1: Starting in Alleghe, take the cable cars up to Col dei Baldi, from where you continue on foot to Malga Pioda. Here begins the most challenging part of the hike, as you proceed towards Rifugio Coldai. At the rifugio, you can take a break and enjoy breathtaking views of the rocky walls of the Civetta area. You can then continue the approximately 20-minute walk to reach the lake.

Route 2: Starting in Palafavera, which has ample parking, take the path on the left of the ski lifts, right in front of the campsite, and reach Malga Pioda. From there, continue towards Coldai.

Rifugio Coldai is also an ideal base for continuing hikes towards the Vazzoler, Tissi, and Torrani refuges.
