The flavor of the year “Hallelujah” and the honey variegated version of the Life Vaia project will be presented
The Pocchiesa Award will also close Gelato Day
It is called “Hallelujah”, just like the liturgical word. And in its own way it will mark the celebration of artisanal gelato on the occasion of the second weekend of Agrimont. Next Sunday, in fact, Gelato Day is celebrated, on the day dedicated to this product by the European Union.
Artisanal gelato is the only food to which the European Parliament has “consecrated” a day, and, since 2012, on the initiative of Artglace and Longarone Fiere Dolomiti, it has become a symbol of artisanal knowledge, which has always been an expression of quality, authenticity and territoriality, bringing together the whole of Europe with events, meetings, initiatives and, of course, cones and cups. An unmissable event that will be even more special this year: Gelato Day 2025, in fact, is dedicated to the Jubilee. So much so that the flavor of the year is precisely “Hallelujah”, a gianduia with toasted hazelnuts and a pure chocolate variegation. Visitors to Agrimont will be able to taste it on Sunday 23 March, stopping by Longarone Fiere Dolomiti which has scheduled a free tasting from 2 to 4:30 pm.
TRADITIONAL VENETO GELATO
And it won’t be the only flavor to try. Because Gelato Day will also be celebrated, in line with the motivations of the European Parliament, with a variegated flavor with honey from the pilot sites of the Life Vaia project in Cansiglio and the Asiago Plateau. The Life Vaia project was born with the aim of developing and applying innovative intervention techniques to promote the reconstitution of forests affected by extreme climate events. This approach also aims to promote the natural adaptation of forest vegetation to climate change. But that’s not all, because Life Vaia has also developed the so-called “Miele della Rinascita”, which will be used to variegate an organic mountain fiordilatte ice cream, created with organic milk from Lattebusche.
A promotion, therefore, of the Veneto agri-food excellences, supported by the internationalization initiative of the Veneto Region with Unioncamere del Veneto and Venice Promex (project no. 20/2024).
POCCHIESA AWARD
Also included in the Gelato Day is the journalism award dedicated to the memory of Ivano Pocchiesa, who passed away in 2013, from 1990 to 1995 head of the press office of Longarone Fiere, author of articles and books on ice cream. The award is curated by Longarone Fiere Dolomiti and the Associazione Bellunesi nel Mondo, and this year it goes to Angelo Grasso, from Milan, a reference figure for the world of artisanal gelato thanks to the great contribution he has given and continues to give to the growth and enhancement of the sector, especially through intense training activities: a teacher in over a thousand courses and the author of many articles that continue to appear in industry magazines. The award ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Longarone Fiere Dolomiti is proud that this initiative, conceived in 2008 on the occasion of the MIG – Mostra Internazionale del Gelato Artigianale and now shared by an ever-increasing number of Associations and Institutions in the world of gelato, has reached such an important milestone.
