It looks like the Netherlands, but it’s the Southern Lagoon of Venice

The Venetian Lagoon features some locations that are still largely untouched by tourism: this is the case of Valle Zappa, with its Casone Zappa, whose style is inspired by Dutch architecture, creating an atmosphere that recalls Flemish buildings but also, in some way, Parc Guell (in Barcelona).
The “casone,” which seems to have been a hunting lodge, was designed in 1923 by the Venetian architect Duilio Torres, who is said to have “designed bridges and lodges on dreams.” The architecture appears sinuous, colorful, eclectic, almost dreamlike, in contrast to the calm and flat horizon of the lagoon, in a mix between Nordic style and the flowing lines of Parc Guell. It’s no coincidence that this area was also frequented by artists such as Ernest Hemingway and Salvador Dalí.

The experience: To visit this remote and timeless place in the Venetian Lagoon, you depart from Lova (Venice), where the company Atn Laguna Sud, located along the Romea state road, organizes guided tours of Valle Zappa about twice a week, which also include, for those interested, sunset aperitifs and dinners on the La Pettegola stilt house. The journey begins by boarding an old 1956 vaporetto (boat), refurbished but still retaining its vintage charm, designed specifically for a unique experience. The visit includes observing the rich biodiversity and breathtaking landscape, as well as Casone Zappa, which also features a lookout tower with a spiral staircase resembling a lighthouse, a garden of oleanders and roses, an orangery, and an entire room in the annex dedicated to the comings and goings of swallows.
