Slow bike: the Veneto ring from Venice to Asolo

Departing from Venice we embark for the island of Lido where the Ciclovia delle Isole (Island Cycle Route) starts, which extends between the sea and the lagoon and leads to Chioggia.

On the second day we continue along the Bacchiglione riverbank and pass through the Benedictine Courts of Correzzola (Padua) to reach the oldest spas in Europe, Abano and Montegrotto Terme.

The next day we reach the centre of Padua and following the Bacchiglione river among abbeys, villas and castles, we arrive in Vicenza, whose historic centre is a World Heritage Site. After a stop in the city, we head towards the foothills towards Marostica and Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza), the former famous for its chess game, the latter for Palladio’s Ponte degli Alpini.

Amidst gentle hills we then reach Asolo (Treviso), one of the ‘Borghi più belli d’Italia’, and Montebelluna (Treviso), at the foot of Montello.

Treviso, the capital of red chicory and Prosecco wine, is now close by. The following day, taking advantage of the GiraSile river cycle route, we return to the lagoon again.

The route is varied and easy, albeit with short stretches on busy roads. On the banks of the rivers you cycle on unpaved cycle paths. There are no significant climbs. Memorable are the boat crossings of the Venetian lagoon, the discovery of small rural villages, and the pools of the Euganean Spas.
