Geo-excursion in one of the most magical places in Valcellina to see the Landre Scur cave, whose entrance appears almost suddenly from the forest: it is one of the largest in Friuli, highly evocative, a place of legends, shelter, and exploration. It represents only the beginning of a 4 km long sub-horizontal cavity, which is part of a wide and fascinating karst area, the site of recent and important explorations, located at the foot of the Colciavath – Resettum group, where the Cellina Torrent originates.
The loop trail passes by the regional geosite of Casera Casavento’s dinosaur footprints and then enters the forest, where we will observe glacial-karst morphologies. On a rock in the stream, some footprints of a Triassic (215 million years old) Theropod, a bipedal and carnivorous dinosaur, can be seen. This dinosaur stood 140-170 cm tall at the hip and could have been up to 7 meters long. The road leading to the parking area at Pian de le Gere is winding and climbs the mountain slope, so some driving skill is required.
