Guided Hike between Rifugio Cercenà and the Eremo dei Romiti – 21/09

The Rifugio Cercenà is a small refuge at the foot of the Spalti di Toro and Cridola mountains, while the ancient Eremo dei Romiti – which enjoys the same panorama – is the only historically documented monastery in Cadore. It is nestled in a vast spruce forest on the less inhabited side of the Piave valley, at the foot of Monte Froppa. After years of abandonment, the building has been restored and now serves as a welcoming refuge, offering a magnificent and unique view of Centro Cadore and the Cadorine Dolomites. Today’s hike will first take us along paths and forest roads through the woods towards Rifugio Cercenà; from there, we will continue along other trails – including the Eremo nature trail – to reach the historic building of the Eremo dei Romiti. After a break, we will descend through the spruce forest along the historic Via Crucis trail once used by the monks, while observing the rich local flora. There will be an opportunity to share the history of this unique building and its place in the historical and geographical context of Cadore.

With packed lunch or lunch at the Eremo.
