A journey into the Borges Labyrinth on the Venetian island of S. Giorgio Maggiore

On the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, just a few steps from the beating heart of Venice, lies a green jewel that conceals a unique experience: the Borges Labyrinth. A tribute to the Argentine writer, this labyrinth is much more than a simple winding path through hedges. It is a symbolic journey, an invitation to get lost in order to find yourself, a sensory experience that stimulates the mind and soul.

Built in 2011 based on a design by the English architect Randoll Coate and at the behest of the Argentine writer’s wife 25 years after his death, the labyrinth is a living work of art, a place in constant change. The over 3,200 boxwood plants that compose it grow and intertwine, constantly modifying the paths and the play of light. Each visit is therefore a new experience, an adventure to be rediscovered.

Borges’ work, full of references to labyrinths, mirrors and alternative realities, inspired the creation of this magical place. The labyrinth is in fact a tribute to his most famous story, “The Garden of Forking Paths”, a true literary labyrinth in which time branches out into infinite possibilities.

After exploring the labyrinth, you can also visit the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore and the spaces designed by the architect Andrea Palladio.
