Between Caorle and Bibione there is a 4 km long, naturalistic, wild beach: the Brussa, a district of land, now also cultivated, connected to the island of Vallevecchia, excellent for those seeking the sea but also peace and tranquility, in a full immersion in nature.
The Brussa, whose name would derive from the Friulian “brusc” (shrubs, small-sized timber), was born between the 1920s and 1930s thanks to a massive reclamation of the wet and marshy territory, from the Italian government, for its conversion into arable land, by the lawyer Giuseppe Lovati and the inhabitants of the surrounding areas.
Today, in this oasis of peace, among pine forests, canals and dunes, you can also practice birdwatching, cycling, walking or horse riding, thanks to the riding school that is located right in the heart of this area. For biodiversity lovers, in the Brussa you can find red herons, mallards and deer, as well as plants such as marsh orchids, Venetian salicornia, willows, oaks and holm oaks. In addition to be a panacea for the spirit, the Brussa also offers the opportunity to eat in its restaurants, with typical local products.
