September 27, World Tourism Day. President Zaia celebrates Veneto: “land of tourism and peace”

“Tourism in Veneto not only supports the economy, but also acts as a bridge for dialogue and peace between peoples, intertwining history, art and natural landscape. In remembering World Tourism Day, whose main theme is ‘tourism and peace’, I think of the artistic and cultural heritage that Veneto is rich in and the paths that connect points of interest from a spiritual, historical and artistic point of view. From the trenches of the Great War on Lagazuoi, today frequented by tens of thousands of tourists, to the military shrine of Mount Grappa. For all of us Venetians, they are symbols of peace and a further confirmation of the richness of a land in which there is no lack of references to the theme of peace, intertwining cities of art with natural landscapes and artistic attractions: symbols that help keep alive the memory of events of historical, cultural and environmental importance so that what happened in the past is not repeated and is a warning for the future”.

This is how the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, remembers World Tourism Day, which is celebrated every year on September 27 and has as its main objective the promotion of the role of tourism in the global economic and social development of communities.

“Tourism in Veneto contributes significantly to economic growth thanks also to a positive trend of growth in arrivals and presences: in 2023, in fact, we recorded record numbers with over 71.8 million tourist presences, a trend that continues this year and is confirmed by the data collected so far. Of these presences, 69% come from foreign tourists, demonstrating the international attractiveness of our region. Added to this is a constantly growing online reputation, with a high score of 86.9/100 (The Data Appeal Company), testifying to the quality of hospitality, the richness and diversity of the artistic-cultural and naturalistic heritage, and the renowned local food and wine traditions. I believe that these numbers should be shared and celebrated with all those who make up the tourism industry, expert in meeting the expectations and needs of a constantly evolving demand thanks to an offer increasingly oriented towards sustainable management of resources and which stands out for the quality of its services”.
