The Congrega dei Radici e Fasioi turns 26: 44 brotherhoods united in the name of tradition

A cultural heritage made of tradition that “lives”, evolves and adapts to the times, while keeping its soul intact.

Cison di Valmarino. The Congrega Radici e Fasioi celebrated the 26th anniversary of its foundation yesterday, at Castel Brando in Cison di Valmarino.

Testimonials from other congregations from all over Europe arrived at the event. Such is the charm of this simple, frugal, but very tasty dish. Delegations from about forty associations showed up with cloaks of the most diverse shapes with the reproduction of the crest of the congregation to which they belong, some even with singular headdresses (350 people present at the event).

The Congrega dei Radici e Fasioi was founded in 1999 in Susegana, following a meeting between some friends passionate about local traditions, traditions that over time have made the territory of the Quartier del Piave and the Alta Marca Trevigiana great.

“Telling is a primordial need of man – says Remigio Villanova – and memory is the true mirror of the soul of a people, of its beliefs and its history. Traditions tell who we are, where we come from and what binds us as a community, a deep sense of belonging. This heritage of inestimable value, contains centuries of history, authentic flavors, knowledge and values handed down from generation to generation, representing a source of identity and a very precious link between the past and the future, and each of us, even the young, can contribute to its preservation by making it alive and significant even in the present”.

An overview of brotherhoods, that of yesterday, formed by people who are passionate about their history, their way of cooking and who want to share it with as many people as possible, thus creating new bonds. In this context, people gather around tables set amidst the sound of laughter, the clinking of glasses and the enveloping aroma of traditional dishes, where the first course of roots and fasioi, prepared by the Congrega Radici e Fasioi, is the star, accompanied by a second course of spit, made by the Confraternita dei Maestri dello Spiedo di Pieve di Soligo; creating a unique atmosphere that makes each of their meetings unforgettable.

The current Master, Enrico Miozzo, with great dedication and commitment has given a dynamic imprint to the Congrega Radici e Fasioi, managing, with his work, to bring together other Brotherhoods also born with the same objective of enhancing the traditions, culture, and conviviality of our territory.

“People like Enrico are rare to find – continues Remigio – he arrived with his humility, sometimes shyness and kindness, without the desire to overdo it but working hard, in short a man of few words but also very concrete. He is an exuberant man, he works day and night to make beans. A good-hearted person who carries forward a congregation united by the same passion. It is thanks to him that today there are so many congregations”.

“It is the heart that beats for this territory and for our traditions – declares Enrico – Transmitting traditional culinary knowledge and techniques to young people is a fundamental step to guarantee their continuity, also supporting local production chains, thus contributing to preserving ancient methods of cultivation, processing and preparation of food. Celebrating these traditions, sitting at the table gives us a moment of conviviality, comparison, growth sharing smiles, affections and indelible memories, where the heart opens and the soul warms”.

The congregations, arriving from Veneto, from all over Italy and even from Estonia, visited the Gypsoteca Antonio Canova in Possagno, followed by the Cantina dei Conti Collalto, the town hall of Susegana with greetings from the mayor Gianni Montesel and the regional councilor Alberto Villanova and then continued with lunch at the Teatro Magno in Castel Brando, where an exchange of gifts took place between the various confraternities and where the Grand Master Enrico Miozzo enthroned four new brothers and a new member: the young Rocco Maria Rossi.

“A special thanks – concludes Remigio Villanova – to the Association of Masters of the Spiedo, to the Confraternity of Mascarpone 1933, to the Accademia dello Spiedo and to the Confraternity of Raboso”.
